Over 2,500 new family cards to be distributed

Officials told to cancel all bogus cards

Dharmapuri: A total of 30,086 applications were received from the public in Dharmapuri district seeking new family cards. Of them, as many as 15,349 applications were rejected on various grounds. A total of 2,677 new family cards will be distributed to cardholders in the first phase, said Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal here on Tuesday.

Surprise checks

Of this, about 1,004 cards will be distributed to cardholders in Dharmapuri taluk followed by 784 cards in Pennagaram taluk and 889 in Harur taluk. Based on various complaints from the public, a team conducted surprise checks at two kerosene outlets in the district and seized as many as 1,106 bogus family cards. The district administration has directed officials concerned to cancel all bogus cards.

Prohibition raids

Mr. Bansal said that prohibition raids would be intensified in the district to curb the menace of distilled arrack. As many as 128 cases were registered by the police over the past week and 119 persons had been remanded to custody.

The prohibition enforcement wing had registered cases against 12 persons for setting up arrack distilleries.

The district administration had sent a proposal to the Government for providing assistance to small and marginal farmers under the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Labourers and Farmers Social Security and Welfare Scheme.

The list of eligible beneficiaries selected under the free colour TV scheme had been pasted at respective panchayat union and village administrative offices in the district.

Efforts had been taken to improve the facilities at the Adi-dravidar and backward classes hostels in the district, Mr. Bansal added.
