Where classical and modern blend

The talented duo of Regis Gizavo and David Mirandon will enthral the Capital's music connoisseurs with their modern Jazz and folk music at The Ashok hotel this Wednesday.

Hosted by Alliance Francaise de Delhi in association with the Embassy of France and The Ashok, the special concert promises to be a blend of classical and modern, simple and sophisticated. Admission to the show will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

Haling from Madagascar, Regis is a singer, composer and songwriter all rolled into one. This full-fledged musician is capable of smoothness as well as wildness.

Described as "the greatest accordionist of today", Regis is synonymous with his "left-hand technique" that refers to his unique bass lines. Moreover, his lyrical, flamboyant style makes him one of the most sought after musicians not only by the younger generation but also by the elderly lot.

This self-taught accordionist is always accompanied by a number of musicians -- Manu Dibango, Cesaria Evora, Ray Lema, Higelin, Bernard Lavilliers and Mano Solo -- whether he is on a tour or recording sessions.

Introduced to special Haitian ceremony rhythms by the late noted drum master Pierre Cheriza, David received training in drums from multiple sources. As a result, he has drawn inspiration from these varied sources and adapted in his own. This rich musical path and style is amply exemplified in his music.

Regis's musical universe, an amazing synthesis of folk, blues, rock `n' roll and African music, was a revelation to David, who has made this musical venture his main priority. Together they have toured different corners of the globe and even recorded two albums for "label Bleu". -- Madhur Tankha
