Churchill Alemao
PANAJI: The South Goa Congress MP and former Chief Minister Churchill Alemao resigned from the party and the Lok Sabha on Tuesday and joined a regional outfit Save Goa Front. Mr. Alemao, who announced his plans to quit the Congress after the State Assembly elections were notified, told The Hindu from New Delhi on Tuesday that he had submitted his resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker. Mr. Alemao, who had been sulking for long in the Congress, said he would field 30-35 candidates in the Assembly polls to fight against the Congress. Setback for Congress He will contest from Navelim in south Goa against his arch-rival Industries Minister Luizinho Faleiro. Though expected, Mr. Alemao's exit on the eve of elections could cause damage to the ruling Congress in the Catholic-dominated Salcete taluk of south Goa, which is considered a bastion of the Congress.
