A HAPPY MAN: K.P. Sethumadhavan
His hometown proved lucky for K.P. Sethumadhavan. The State Bank of Travancore football team coach was delighted when his players emerged victorious in the State league championship at the Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode on Tuesday, after a string of disappointing results since he took charge last August. "I am happy that my team won in what has been my first assignment as the coach in my hometown," he said. "I was looking forward to coming to the city with my team earlier, for the final phase of the National Football League second division, but unfortunately we failed to qualify. So this victory indeed comes as a consolation." He admitted that the team badly needed to win the title. "After going through a very tough time this season, we required nothing less than a victory here. Besides, the State league is an important event," he said. Though Mr. Sethumadhvan left competitive football long ago, he had played on this very ground last year, when he turned out for Calicut Soccer in the Kozhikode District Veterans' league.
