Smokers not hit by strike

Nobody, except, perhaps, smokers, is protesting against this agitation. The Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi indefinitely suspended cigarette sales from April 16 in the State. For many, it has been a welcome development, as, they believe, smokers have no choice but to quit. But are the smokers not lighting up anymore? They still get to buy cigarettes from small vendors. Only that they are charged 50 paise more for every cigarette by some vendors who want to cash in on the shortage. The agitation will stop only if tobacco companies agree to talk with the traders. The traders are stepping up the agitation, miffed that the companies are using small vendors for sales.
