TIRUCHI: With soaring spirits, the youngsters start their day's practice at St. Joseph's College basketball court under the tutelage of M. Rama Subramaniaraja.

For close to a month now, over 40 aspiring players have been working hard to learn the rudiments of the game.

"Though most of the participants are beginners, the camp is mainly for those who wish to take up basketball seriously. The progress of the players has been really good," says Mr. Subramaniaraja. Apart from height, speed plays a crucial role to excel in basketball, which is considered one of the fastest games in the world.

Agility

"Basketball demands agility. The youngsters are taught various exercises during the camp to keep themselves fit," he says adding that they are also educated on the rules of the game.

"To shine at higher levels it is important to get the basics right. And the youngsters over here are willing to learn and work harder," he says.

Parents' support

Making a special mention about the support from parents, Mr. Subramaniaraja says that their backing would be of great help to the budding players in achieving their goals.
