Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has said that the resolution urging the Centre to accord full-fledged powers to Puducherry that was unanimously passed in the Territorial Assembly on May 5 will be sent to the Union Home Ministry for approval. He told The Hindu on Tuesday here that in the next stage, he would proceed to Delhi to meet the Home Minister to urge him to concede the demand. Asked if a delegation of all legislators would be deputed to Delhi, he said this would also take place after his visit to the capital.
Bill on VAT
The Chief Minister said although the Bill relating to implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) could not form part of the business of the Assembly which had its sitting for 25 days, the VAT could be brought into effect through an ordinance shortly. (There was an announcement in the budget speech of the Chief Minister that the VAT would be implemented from June 1)
