A slice of Indian art on display at Bajpe airport

A three-day painting exhibition will be held from Thursday

MANGALORE: Passengers using the arrival lounge of the Bajpe airport here will witness a solo painting exhibition of Rajendra Kedige, an artist and a member of Artists' Forum, Udupi, from Thursday for three days.

Mr. Kedige has participated in eight exhibitions (group and solo), including the "Chitra Santhe" held in Bangalore in January.

Born in a family of artists, Mr. Kedige's penchant for an individualistic approach and compositional pattern sets him apart from the rest. His medium is more congenial to nature, and expressions evolving in his works have native simplicity, according to a release here.

Mr. Kedige told presspersons here on Tuesday that the idea of arranging a solo painting exhibition at the airport was given to him by director of the airport M.R. Vasudeva.

Mr. Kedige said 20 of his select works of art — oil paintings on canvas — would be put on display and would be available for sale at the lounge.

Noting that an event of this nature was being held for the first time in any airport in the country, Mr. Kedige said it would help introduce a slice of Indian art and culture to the scores of passengers who used this facility every day.

Chief general manager of Karnataka Bank Ltd. P. Jayaram Bhat will inaugurate the exhibition at the arrival lounge at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday. Vice-president of Srinivas Group of Colleges A. Srinivas Rao will be the chief guest. Artist K. Pundalik Shenoy will deliver a talk on art. Mr. Vasudeva will preside over the function.
