BANGALORE: It appears that seven of the passengers on board the Kenya Airlines aircraft that crashed in Cameroon on May 5 were either heading for Karnataka or had some link to the State. The number of people from the State on board the plane was not five as reported earlier. It has now emerged that two elderly persons, Kevin Nigli, 60, and Shirly Nigli, 58, were on their way to Bangalore, where their son, Savio Nigli, who stays in Krishnarajapuram, is a lecturer in a private college. As reported earlier, three others, chartered accountant B. Madhusudan, 42, his daughter, Poojitha, 10, and wife, Bhagya, 34, were coming to Bangalore. It is not clear where the two other passengers, Ruby Marie Paul, 30, of Mangalore, and Prakash Sundaram were heading for.
No information
The authorities appeared to be in the dark about the relatives of Mr. Sundaram. All that is known is that he was an employee of a company named Bouygues. An Internet search revealed that there is a France-based Bouygues Group, which employs some 1.25 lakh people and is a major player in the property development, road building and telecom sectors with operations in many countries. Indian Government officials are attempting to contact Mr. Sundaram's employers. B. Ananth, Mr. Madhusudan's brother, said he and his brother, B. Murali, and a cousin were likely to go to Kenya. Mr. Ananth said they had received no information about the rescue operation. The Nigli family is from Tamil Nadu. Mr. Savio Nigli told The Hindu that his father was working as a tea plantation consultant for a firm in Cameroon. He had 35 years of experience in the field, having worked for the PKT Company at Valparai in Tamil Nadu. He was coming back to India for good. He was yet to decide where he would settle down.

Mangalore Staff Correspondent writes: Ruby Marie Paul was from Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada, according to sources here. She was a 1995 batch B.Sc. student from St. Agnes College, Mangalore.
