Meet on poll date

Ameet Dhakal

KATHMANDU: Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has called a meeting of the leaders of the eight-party alliance on Thursday to finalise the date for the Constituent Assembly (CA) election. Mr. Koirala took the decision following his meetings with Maoist Chairman Prachanda, CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and NC (D) president Sher Bahadur Deuba. "We discussed, among other things, the date for the CA poll," said Mr. Nepal after his meeting with Prime Minister. Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said the meeting would discuss political issues and try to reach an agreement on a political package, including the poll date. It will be the first time that the leaders will be meeting in three weeks since the Election Commission declared that poll was not possible on June 20 as agreed by the eight-party leaders.
