HYDERABAD: Faced with the criticism that the regional development boards will only be "ornamental," the State Government is contemplating entrusting some financial powers and functions to them. An exercise to work out the necessary guidelines providing these powers and functions began on Tuesday at a two-hour-long meeting that Finance Minister K. Rosaiah had with senior officials. K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, Adviser (Public Affairs), attended the meeting. Sources said the draft guidelines would be finalised before the return of the Chief Minister so that he could approve and make an announcement.
Guidelines soon
"Once the guidelines are framed, the posts of Chairmen of the regional development boards will be attractive," they said. The initial plan is to keep a certain percentage of the funds allocated to a region for implementation of schemes and projects under the control of the boards.
