RI for Romesh Sharma in FERA violation case

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Tuesday sentenced Romesh Sharma, alleged frontman of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who is also facing probe in several other cases, to five years rigorous imprisonment in a Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) violation case.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau, who earlier found Sharma guilty in the case on April 21, also imposed a fine of Rs.61 lakh on the convict. According to prosecution, Sharma through his firm Nextone had exported garments worth Rs.1.22 crore in 1997 and the foreign exchange was to be realised in the next six months.
