50 more properties sealed in Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday sealed 50 commercial properties in residential areas of the Capital.

Fourteen properties each were sealed in Lajpat Nagar and Shakarpur. In South Zone, three properties were targeted in Dakshinpuri. Five properties each were sealed in Najafgarh and West Zone. Two premises were sealed in Civil Lines Zone and seven in Rohini.

A total of 1,413 properties have been sealed since the resumption of the drive on March 28.

Cheques distributed to 104 widows

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister A. K. Walia on Tuesday distributed cheques to 104 widows in his Geeta Colony constituency under the Financial Assistance to Widows scheme. While 58 widows up to the age of 45 were given cheques for Rs.20,000 each, the rest were paid Rs.10,000 each.

Dr. Walia said the Delhi Government had raised the old age monthly pension from Rs.400 to 600 and a new scheme of pension for widows in which Rs. 600 per month is paid to beneficiaries has been introduced from this financial year in place of the existing scheme of financial assistance to widows.

World Red Cross Day observed

NEW DELHI: The Indian Red Cross Society on Tuesday observed World Red Cross Day by organising a series of activities in the Capital around the theme "Together for Humanity".

The Society organised a seminar at its national headquarters here in which heads of the U.S., U.K, Canadian, German and Spanish Red Cross Societies participated. Inaugurating the seminar, the Head of the Regional Delegation, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for South Asia, Anitta Underlin, said the Red Cross was working at global, regional and local levels to achieve its global agenda.

"Imbibe spirit of patriotism"

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday exhorted people to imbibe the spirit of patriotism from the sacrifices made by martyrs while paying homage to the martyrs of the famous Hardinge bomb case at a function organised on the Maulana Azad Medical College campus that once housed a jail.

Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs who had exhibited courage and commitment towards patriotism by protesting the entry of the Governor-General of India into the new Capital city of Delhi on December 23, 1912.
