THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan has said that the illegal constructions in Munnar will not only be demolished but those responsible for them arrested as part of the drive to cleanse Munnar. Mr. Bhargavan told a news conference here on Tuesday that there was no question of the Government showing any leniency towards the encroachers and those who had constructed buildings illegally in Munnar. The Government viewed the encroachments as a criminal offence and was determined to expose all the vested interests behind them. "We have decided to take it as a mission," the CPI leader said.
New legislation
Mr. Bhargavan reiterated his party's demand for a fresh legislation to govern admissions and fee structure in private self-financing professional colleges and called upon the Government to hold an all-party meeting and a dialogue with the private self-financing college managements to find a solution to the issue. A new legislation was necessary to overcome the Supreme Court verdict, which gave full freedom to the managements in the matter of admissions and fee structure, he said.
