Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram Passport Officer Balachandran Nair has asked those requiring passports urgently to apply under the Tatkal scheme. He said in a press note here on Tuesday that the formalities for applying under the Tatkal scheme were given in detail in the Passport Information Booklet attached to the passport application. No proof of urgency was required. The press note was issued in the context of a large number of persons who had submitted applications for passport in the normal course approaching the office on a daily basis for out-of-turn consideration of their cases. It took 35 days on an average for issuing a passport. Entertaining requests for out-of-turn consideration resulted in the diversion of limited resources and resulted in further delay in the issue of passports. He added that the pleas for out-of- turn issue of passports were considered only in very exceptional cases.
