KOZHIKODE: The Kerala Land Revenue Staff Association has demanded restructuring of the Revenue Department to make its governance more effective. It would be one of the major issues to be discussed at the association's State conference in Kozhikode from May 10 to 13, association leaders said at a press conference on Tuesday. Pointing out that there was an urgent need to change the profile of many taluks on the basis of the number of villages and population, they said the Left Front Government should at least implement the decision taken during its previous tenure to form 16 new taluks.
Striking differences
A commission that was set up in 2001 to reorganise taluks had not yet completed its assignment. Striking differences existed in the profile of taluks at present. While the Kunnathur taluk had seven villages, Ottappalam taluk had 41, Thalassery taluk 48, Taliparambu taluk 47 and Kozhikode taluk 53. To end these dissimilarities, reorganisation of taluk was a necessity, M.C. Vasudevan, secretary, K.P. Venugopal, district president, M.K. Abbas, district secretary, and T. Vijayan, State treasurer, of the association said. The need to introduce uniformity in department procedures was also underlined.
