Lucknow: The police have rescued a teenaged boy, a week after he was kidnapped, from a forest area in neighbouring Barabanki district following a gunbattle with his abductors in which two of them were killed. A team of Special Task Force of the UttarPradesh Police raided an outhouse in a forest near Ganeshpur village on Tuesday and rescued Mohit (16), son of a city-based cloth merchant Purushottam Chandnani, after an encounter with the kidnappers.
Weapons recovered
While Mohit was rescued, two of the kidnappers were shot dead during the gun-battle, a senior STF official said adding that searches were on to nab their accomplices. Some weapons were also recovered from the possession of the kidnappers. Mohit is unharmed and will be handed over to his parents, the official said here. The boy was kidnapped from the Aliganj area of the State capital on May one. Three car-borne armed men hit the scooter in which the boy was going to his school with his father. They had a scuffle with his father and fired shots in the air to scare away morning walkers and passers-by.
Ransom made
A ransom of Rs 50 lakh was also made to Mohit's family. Four policemen, including the SHO of Aliganj police station, were suspended and Superintendent of Police Trans-Gomti Jagjit Singh transferred last week for alleged negligence in handling of the case.
