Shimla: The Congress has named Himachal Forest Minister Ram Lal Thakur as its candidate for by- election to the Hamirpur Parliamentary constituency. Mr. Thakur's name was cleared by party president Sonia Gandhi, state Congress spokesman Kuldeep Singh Thakur said on Tuesday. Hamirpur will go to polls on June 2. Mr. Thakur had lost to BJP's Suresh Chandel in the last elections by a narrow margin. Polling was necessitated after the expulsion of Mr. Chandel in the cash-for-query scam. The BJP is yet to announce its candidate.
