Sequel to wordy duel with father over phone?

  • She wanted to stay back in city to complete some class work
  • Her father reportedly insisted that she should return immediately

CUTTACK: A post-graduate student of Ravenshaw University committed suicide on Tuesday reportedly minutes after a heated argument with her father over telephone. The argument was allegedly for "overstaying" in Cuttack city during summer vacation.

Parbati Bhue, 21, a 5th year Hindi student who had won the `Miss Fresher' award for her all-round performance, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room around 8.30 a.m.

Hostel superintendent Hushnara Begum said the girl from Jharsuguda district, who was supposed to go to her native place in the afternoon for summer vacation, was seen hanging with the `dupatta' serving as a noose.

    No note found

"We have not found any note on her person or in her room, and the motive behind the extreme step has not yet been ascertained. After registering an unnatural death case, we have sent the body for post-mortem examination. Investigation is on," said district SP S.K. Priyadarshi. Quoting Parbati's friends, the superintendent said that the girl reportedly had an argument with her father over telephone early in the morning. "She wanted to stay back in the city for a few more days at one of her friend's house to complete her class notes. But her father, an ex-serviceman, insisted that she return immediately," Ms. Begum, a psychology teacher, said, adding that the development in the morning might have emotionally hurt the girl who was very sensitive by nature.

"We have informed the girl's father Jyoti Prasad Bhue about the incident and he is likely to reach the city by evening," she said.
