HASSAN: An emergency meeting held at the Indian Medical Association building in Arsikere on Monday condemned the attack on a doctor and two `D' Group employees of the government hospital in Arsikere by the relatives of a patient. As a mark of protest, doctors wore black badges on Monday.
Complaint
A complaint has been lodged at Arsikere police station. Indira Dinesh of Heggatte village in Arsikere taluk was admitted to the General Hospital in Arsikere on Sunday for delivery. As she had high blood pressure and showed symptoms of epilepsy, she was administered first aid and her parents were told to shift her to the Hassan District Hospital. But Indira was admitted to a private nursing home in Hassan. The baby was stillborn and the woman died due to high blood pressure and heavy bleeding on Sunday. Her body was brought to Arsikere on Sunday night.
Angry mob
An angry mob allegedly attacked Dr. Shibira Hegde, who was the duty doctor, and Raju and Shanmukha, two `D' Group employees of the Arsikere Government Hospital. Dr. Shibira Hegde told presspersons that Indira had been suffering from high blood pressure and she had consulted Sridhar and Purnima, doctors of the District Hospital in Hassan over phone, before sending the patient to Hassan. IMA expressed anguish at the attack on its member and appealed to the police to provide necessary protection to doctors.
