BELLARY: The body of Basavaraj, who was missing from Sandur since Friday night, was found in a canal near D. Nagenahalli on Monday. Basavaraj appeared to have been strangled with a rope. Some financial dealing was the reason for the murder, Amrit Paul, Superintendent of Police, said. Basavaraj had left his house after getting a call on Friday night with around Rs. 3 lakh saying that that he was going to purchase iron ore. As he had not returned, his brother Panduranga had filed a complaint with the Sandur police, the SP said. The police found the Tata Sumo belonging to Basavaraj on the outskirts of Sandur. They picked up Siddalinga who is said to have had financial dealings with Basavaraj. He had confessed to the crime and showed the police the place where he had thrown the body, Mr. Paul said. Siddalinga and two others allegedly took Basavaraj in his vehicle saying that they were going to a plot where iron ore was stocked. But they had driven towards Moka in Bellary and strangled Basavaraj on the way, the SP said.
