Two students drowned

GUNTUR: A riverside revelry turned fatal for a group of students from Vijayawada, when two boys got drowned in River Krishna abutting the Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Tadepalli on Tuesday morning.

The drowned students were identified as G. Venkat (21) and K. Hari Krishna, both of them hailing from Vijayawada. According to Tadepalli Sub Inspector of Police Srinivasa Reddy, three couples came to the temple to offer prayers and after visiting temple boys entered the river while the three girls on the riverbank.

The three two youth got into the water to wash their feet, when a strong current of water dragged them in. Local fisherman rescued one of them — B. Rama Krishna. The students had spent the previous night at a lodge in Amaravathi and were about to return to Vijayawada, when this mishap occurred.

The police said that they had informed the kith and kin of the deceased.
