NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday demanded that the Congress Governments at the Centre and in Delhi should assure the Supreme Court in writing that they would provide sufficient basic amenities within a fixed time frame to all residents staying on third floor of buildings and those who have made additional constructions. Accusing the Congress of implementing the new Master Plan for Delhi-2021 in haste in the "greed for votes", he said, the plan was implemented February 8 in view of the MCD elections without full preparations. "At that time the BJP had said that this plan will fail the test of Supreme Court. Until an amnesty scheme is implemented by the Central Government, it would be difficult to provide relief to the people of Delhi," he said. Dr. Vardhan said if the Central Government and the State Government are really serious about providing basic amenities to the people, then they should make serious efforts in this regard. The role of the MCD, he said, was limited primarily to disposal of garbage.
