Three die in roof collapse

NEW DELHI: Three persons were killed and 11 injured when the roof of an under-construction temple collapsed at Alipur here on Tuesday.

According to the police, the roof of Nirmal Sukh Mandir at Singhu village collapsed on Tuesday evening, trapping over a dozen devotees. Krishan Pal, Dal Singh and Ram Kumar died on the spot, while 11 people were taken to a nearby hospital.

The condition of three of the injured was stated to be critical.

Nabbed for assaulting minor

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man has been arrested at Nabi Karim here for alleged criminal assault on a minor girl living in his neighbourhood.

According to the police, Chand Babu, who works at a slaughterhouse, lured the four-year-old girl to a secluded place and criminally assaulted her on Tuesday. However, local residents caught him and handed him over to the police.

Life term to MP welcomed

NEW DELHI: The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation has welcomed the award of life sentence to the Member of Parliament from Siwan, Mohammed Shahabuddin, by a Bihar court for abducting a CPI (M-L) activist eight years ago.

"Parliament and the ruling parties owe an answer to the people as to why the membership of criminals like Shahabuddin has still not been terminated," said party general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya in a release here on Tuesday.

L-G to launch helpline

New Delhi: A round-the-clock helpline to register public grievances of Delhiites is being set up at the Lt. Governor's office.

The "LG's 24x7 Listening Post", which denizens can access by dialling 155355 from any landline or mobile phone, will start functioning from tomorrow, according to an official spokesman.

The grievance reception and redressal system will be in addition to all existing departmental arrangements for disposal of public grievances.

Citizens can register their grievances that remain unsettled concerning issues such as security, law and order, traffic violations, encroachment on government land, deficiencies in civic services and violation of building by-laws. It will inform the citizen as soon as required remedial action has been taken by the concerned agency.
