TIRUCHI: Stepping up enforcement of traffic rules, the police personnel have started photographing vehicles involved in violations at traffic junctions here from Monday.

As many as 10 digital cameras have been procured utilising Road Safety Fund. They have been given to beat traffic constables posted at Mannarpuram, Viralimalai Junction, Zonal Point, Mutharayar statue, MGR statue, Puthur Four Road, Kohinoor Theatre Junction and Mambazha Salai signal points.

A total of 50 policemen have been imparted short-term training in photography using digital cameras.

They have been instructed to take photographs of vehicles involved in stop line violation, triple riding, cell phone riding and overload at signal points.

They will also take photographs of two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets from June 1. The photographs will be downloaded in separate computer folders at Traffic Regulatory Management System in operation at the Gandhi Market Police Station.

According to Commissioner of Police Shankar Jiwal, through Vehicle Tracing System at police control room, the addresses of the violators would be ascertained and challans sent to them.

Once the traffic signals become operational at Thillai Nagar south and north arches, the photographs of violators would be taken at these points as well, he said.

The traffic signal at Thillai Nagar south arch would become functional in three days and the one at north arch in 10 days.

Wireless dome cameras would shortly be installed at Puthur Four Road and Kohinoor Theatre Junctions.
