VISAKHAPATNAM: The issue of the merger of Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels (BHPV) in the city with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., (BHEL) will be resolved shortly, with the entire process to be completed in a month or two. An assurance to this effect was given by the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Santosh Mohan Dev, at New Delhi on Monday evening to Visakhapatnam MP N. Janardhana Reddy, who led a delegation of trade union leaders. The Minister also assured the delegation that a meeting on the merger was being convened on May 22 to resolve the issue. Mr. Reddy submitted a memorandum to the Minister urging him to effect the merger immediately so as to revive the ailing BHPV at an early date. In the memorandum, he said that as desired by the Ministry, the Andhra Pradesh Government came forward in transferring the land measuring 386.73 acres to BHPV and also waived all the taxes and duties through GO Ms no: 96 dated April 30, a copy of which he had enclosed. The BHPV trade union leaders who accompanied Mr. Reddy to the Minister were Ch. Munibabu, G. Dhana Raju and Pilla Raju.
