GUNTUR: The district recorded highest temperature on Tuesday, with Bapatla registering 42 degree Celsius, a jump of 6 degree from Monday. Temperatures shot up, with Ongole and Gannavaram recording 41 degree Celsius and 41.8 degree Celsius respectively. The temperatures had been soaring for the past three days in the region. Visakhapatnam and the Godavari districts, however, were receiving some summer showers in the evenings. Things literally turned hot in Chilakaluripet, Guntur and Narsaraopet, with room temperatures soaring past 39 degree Celsius. According to the Cyclone Warning Centre at Visakhapatnam, not much change could be expected in the next couple of days. Machilipatnam, the Krishna district headquarters, recorded 37 degree Celsius. In Kakinada and at Visakhapatnam airport, the temperatures were much lower at 36.2 degree Celsius and 36.4 degree Celsius respectively. Nellore, in contrast, recorded 41 degree Celsius. In Guntur, it was sultry right from the morning. In the evening, hot winds began to sweep through the district. Dust from the chilli market yard in the district headquarters only added to the misery of the denizens. The roads were deserted, but this did not deter people from heading towards holiday destinations.
