HYDERABAD: Nine rebel Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLAs have been given two more weeks' time to reply to the notice issued by the Assembly Speaker in response to TRS' petition seeking their disqualification for fielding an independent in the Council elections. "In response to a letter submitted by the TRS, the Legislative Secretariat has issued a notice to the nine MLAs seeking an explanation on the demand for disqualifying them under the provisions of anti-defection law," Mr. Suresh Reddy said on Tuesday. On March 19, the TRS president had submitted a petition signed by TRS floor leader G. Vijayarama Rao seeking disqualification of the rebel MLAs for proposing the candidature of Kasani Gnaneshwar. Their action amounted to voluntarily giving up their membership of TRS political party and a legislature party. Thus, he wanted G. Mukunda Reddy, Narayan Rao Patel, Mandadi Satyanarayana Reddy, Dugyala Srinivasa Rao, Kasipeta Lingaiah, Soyam Bapu Rao, Bandari Sara Rani, S. Santosh Reddy and T. Jayaprakash Reddy to be disqualified as MLAs. The Speaker said these MLAs had since sought some more time to reply to the letter. "They said that were unable to reply to the notice due to the Assembly session and later the Praja Patham programme. I have allowed them two weeks' time," he explained. Meanwhile, TRS secretary V. Prakash told reporters that his party would challenge the Speaker's ruling if it went against the TRS. However, rebel legislator T. Jayaprakash Reddy claimed that he had not received any notice.
