Travel agent told to pay compensation

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Judicial Magistrate S. Soman has directed Koyakutti, a travel agent based at Angamaly, to pay Rs.50,000 as compensation to an emigrant after he was found guilty of defrauding the latter by issuing a fake passport and visa

Antony, 35, of Alappuzha was arrested by immigration officials from the Thiruvananthapuram airport while attempting to leave the country for Kuwait using the fake passport and visa provided to him by Koyakutti.

The court, however, acquitted Antony on the grounds that he could not check the authenticity of the documents provided to him by Koyakutti as these were made available to him only after entering the airport. The court also sentenced Koyakutti to three years' imprisonment.
