dated May 10, 1957: Capital of Kerala

A Congress member, Mr. T.O. Bawa, asked the Chief Minister in the Kerala Assembly on May 8 whether the Government intended to select a new capital for Kerala. The Chief Minister, Mr. E.M.S. Namboodiripad, replied that the question was not under consideration. He also replied in the negative to a question whether the Government had received any representation in this regard. Mr. Bawa also asked whether it was intended to make the historic Trikkakkara (near Alwaye) as the capital of Kerala. The Chief Minister replied: "The question does not arise."
