BANGALORE: The Bangalore Summer Meeting 2007 will commence on Friday (May 11) and conclude on Friday (Aug. 3) with 26 race days scheduled for the period. Racing will be held on Saturdays and Sundays, with midweek races slated for the first and concluding weeks.

Concurrently, Summer races will be held at Mysore spread over fifteen days beginning on May 23. It will go on till July 25.

"The Kingfisher Derby Bangalore is on par with the richest race in the country — The Indian Derby — with an added money of Rs 50 lakhs, inclusive of Rs 25 lakhs being put in by the club. The club will thus guarantee total stakes of Rs one crore" said Mr Marilingaiah, Chairman and Senior Steward of the BTC at a press conference here on Wednesday.

"The stakesmoney has been increased by 10% as compared to the last Winter Meeting," he said.

The Chairman also said that "enquiries involving objections during the races will now be telecast live, as in Mumbai."

About 900 horses including 150 outstation horses are stabled at the BTC and about 800 horses are expected to participate during the season.

Level of incentive has been revised by 12.5% as compared to the Bangalore Winter Meeting 2006-2007. Payment of 20% incentive on stakes earned by local horses in ordinary races will continue as in previous summer. Payment of 20% incentive on stakes won by horses bred in Karnataka will continue as in the 2006-07 Winter meeting. Payment of 20% incentive on stakes earned by local horses in ordinary races will continue on the same basis, as the last winter meeting, in respect of owner not having interest in more than five horses.

Estimated total outlay for the season would be Rs. 11.50 crores over 26 days covering stakes and incentives as compared to Rs. 10 crores paid last summer.

Mr. Marilingaiah said timely rainfall has rendered the race track in a satisfactory condition. "The penalties in respect of Terms races for 4-year-olds and over have been revised and the penalties are now linked to the winning performance in graded and equivalent races," he added.

Gross deduction on win, place and second horse pools would be at 8%.
