Journalists union flays violence

Puducherry: The Puducherry Journalists Union on Wednesday condemned the violent attack on the office of the Tamil newspaper Dinakaran in Madurai and killing of two employees by an unruly mob, which set fire to the office. In a release, union general secretary D. Sivakumar called upon the Tamil Nadu Government to take immediate action against all those who indulged in violence. In a democracy, newspapers had full right and freedom to come out with a survey and any attempt to gag the freedom deserved to be condemned in strongest term, he said. — Special Correspondent
