Staff Reporter

Presidency College to admit 15 students in each course

Chennai: Presidency College will offer B.Com and BCA programmes exclusively for hearing-impaired candidates from the coming academic year.

"Applications will be issued in the third week of May. We will take 15 students for each course," Presidency College Principal S. Ramanathan said.

The courses, to be offered in Tamil, will be taught free of cost.

Teachers proficient in sign language would tutor the students. Mr. Ramanathan said books that use illustrations to teach concepts would be stocked for the students.

Classes will be held between 1.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays.

"The programmes would help the students get good jobs. We have a campus placement cell and leading firms like Infosys and Wipro are willing to hire talented physically-challenged students," Mr. Ramanathan said.

Last year, 37 companies visited the college.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates who have passed Plus Two can apply for the B.Com and BCA courses.

There is no age bar but candidates would have to submit medical certificates that attest their disability.
