COLOMBO: The police on Wednesday claimed to have recovered the Indian High Commission vehicle that was hijacked in the second week of April. According to diplomatic sources, the police informed the Indian mission in Colombo that the luxury van was recovered from the north-central town Kurunegala on Wednesday morning by a special police team, along with two other vehicles. The Toyota dolphin van bearing the DPL (diplomatic) number plate was hijacked by gunmen on the outskirts of Colombo. It was going to the Bandaranaike International Airport to pick up an official returning from India. The hijackers had released the local driver after assaulting him badly the next day.
