KARUR: R. Ashwath of Chennai won the title with nine points in the second R. Ramasamy Gounder memorial FIDE-rating open chess tournament, conducted by the Karur District Chess Association, here on Wednesday. It's two in a row for Ashwath as he had won the LA Group FIDE-rating tournament in Coimbatore last week. S. Nitin of Salem and K. Rathnakaran of Southern Railway finished second and third respectively.

Selection trials
The Coimbatore District Chess Association will conduct a selection trial tournament at the SRS Kalyana Mandapam on Kalangal Road in Sulur on May 14 and 15.
