Revision of college staff pattern harmful: KPCMSA

Staff Reporter

Unscientific grading affects supervisory posts

KANNUR: The Kerala Private College Ministerial Staff Association (KPCMSA) has said that the Government order revising the staff pattern in aided colleges following the de-linking of pre-degree is detrimental to the non-teaching employees and also the day-to-day functioning of the colleges.

There was a substantial decrease in the number of supervisory posts in the aided colleges owing to unscientific grading of the colleges, association State president N. Narayanan said at a press conference here on Monday. Nearly 70 per cent of the posts of clerks and other staff in the lower category under the existing pattern were found to be surplus as per the revised staff pattern, he said, adding that the number of lab assistants was reduced by 50 per cent and the posts of super watchmen and sanitation workers were completely terminated.

With the conversion of the posts of librarians into University Grants Commission-approved posts, promotion prospects of the existing non-teaching staff were subverted, Mr. Narayanan said.

The two-day State conference of the association beginning here on Friday would chalk out a course of action to highlight its demands. The demands included employment to dependents of employees dying in harness, making Principals drawing officers, retaining of staff pattern of Government colleges in aided colleges and sanctioning of computer operator posts in colleges.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the conference at the Chamber Hall on May 12.
