Coin-vending machines for Metro

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to install coin-vending machines at Rajiv Chowk (Connaught Place) station on a trial basis from this month-end. The machines, to be installed by a private company, will allow passengers to get coins in exchange for currency notes.

Taking cognisance of the long queues at metro stations due to insufficient change, the DMRC has decided to install several coin-vending machines. Passengers can get coins of Re. 1, Rs. 2 and Rs. 5 denominations in exchange for Rs. 10 and Rs. 20 notes.

Public hearing

NEW DELHI: In an effort to fight the menace of untouchability and develop an action plan to eliminate it from the country, the National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights and Human Rights Law Network along with 56 other organisations is organising a two-day national public hearing titled "Indian People's Tribunal" here from this Saturday.

Sixty cases of untouchability and atrocities on Dalits from different parts of the country will be addressed.

`True homage '

NEW DELHI: All-India Congress Committee secretary Jai Kishan has proposed that social organisations should be given opportunities to start their own educational institutions.

Addressing a meeting here, Mr. Kishan said the proposed university in B.R. Ambedkar's name must have its Vice-Chancellor and Registrar from Dalit communities. "This will be a true homage to the Dalit leader," he added.

Acquitted

New Delhi: A court here has acquitted four persons, who along with a woman had allegedly murdered a man over monetary demands, after the prosecution witnesses had come up with contradictory statements on the cause of death.
