VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) will sign tripartite agreements on "sister-city" relationship with Florida State University in Tallahassee and University of Alaska in Fairbanks of the United States of America. This will be the first time that such an agreement is signed by any Indian university. This is the outcome of the discussions held by AU Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy with Tallahassee Mayor John R. Mark during his recent 23-day visit to United States to study the trends of higher education in various universities of higher learning there. The tripartite agreement would be signed on environmental, education and economic cooperation when the team led by Mayor Mark visits Visakhapatnam to attend the 95th Indian Science Congress scheduled during January 3-7, 2008.
Visa processing
Briefing mediapersons about his visit, Prof. Reddy said the advantage of the agreement would be that students desirous of pursuing studies in those universities would get 50 per cent fee concession and priorities in visa processing. The Vice-Chancellor, who was part of a seven member delegation of officials of the Andhra Pradesh government and the Andhra Pradesh Council of Higher Education, visited various reputed institutions.
