Two turn hostile in Madhumita case

Dehra Dun: Two witnesses in poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case on Wednesday turned hostile, giving a setback to the CBI, the prosecution.

Appearing before District and Sessions Judge V. B. Roy, Neelam Kashyap and Ravindra Sharma, both poets and friends of Madhumita, refused to corroborate their earlier statements given to that CBI that Madhumani, prime accused in the case and wife of former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amarmani Tripathi, came to the slain poetess' house on November 24, 2002 and they had a quarrel.

Both of them told the court that they never gave such a statement to the investigating agency and that they did not have any knowledge of quarrel between Madhumani and Madhumita. The two said that on November 24, 2002, they were rather with Nidhi Shukla, the elder sister of Madhumita, in her home.

There are five accused in the case including Amarmani and Madhumani.
