Botsa Satyanarayana
HYDERABAD: Housing Minister Botsa Satyanarayana has said that Rajiv Gruhakalpa, the housing programme launched for low income groups in the urban areas, is "not scrapped." At a press conference here on Wednesday, the Minister said all the 66,000 houses sanctioned under the scheme would be completed by December. A new Centre-sponsored `Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme' was mistaken by some quarters as phasing out the Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme.
Private land for scheme
The Minister said private land could be purchased for implementing the scheme. Lands had been acquired in Nellore and Prakasam districts. Search was on for lands at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Mangalagiri, Sangareddy, Anakapalli and Bheemunipatnam. Mr. Satyanarayan called "baseless," the reports that banks had sought postponement of the scheme by two years. "What they wanted is implementation in phases as the scheme requires Rs. 20,000 crore."
