HYDERABAD: Western Union, a global money transfer services company, on Wednesday, announced that Hyderabad-based Spandana microfinance institution will offer money transfer services through its 280 locations covering semi-urban and rural parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Western Union's Country Director Ratheesh Kumar told a press conference here that people could receive their money safely, reliably and quickly from a worldwide network of banks, currency exchanges, post offices, travel agencies and other facilities. There are 40,000 Western Union agents across 4,000 towns in the country. Money can be transferred within minutes after a customer completes a simple `to send money' form at any Western Union agent's location and receives and money transfer control number (MTCN). The receiver has to fill a `to-receive-money' form at any Western Union agent location, quote the MTCN and provide identity proof and draw the amount. Mr. Ratheesh Kumar said, based on the success of the present tie-up, plans will be drawn up to forge alliances with other similar institutions.
