VIJAYAWADA: Several young couples entered wedlock on the premises of Kanakadurga temple atop Indrakeeladri on Wednesday, which was considered one of the most auspicious days for marriages. While 13 couples obtained the accommodation given by the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam authorities and opted for a systematic ritual, others preferred to complete the wedding in a jiffy by tying the knot in front of the sanctum sanctorum. As there were several auspicious `muhurthams,' many youngsters and their parents preferred the temple. Marriages were also performed in Bhavani deeksha mandapam, which was not being used for marriages so far. Priests said that over 50 marriages were performed on the temple premises.
It's celebration time
Hyderabad Staff Reporter writes: Notwithstanding the hot sun, it was celebration time in the city as scores of couples chose to tie the nuptial knot. Marriage halls brimmed with activity and threw up long and winding file of vehicles. At some places, traffic movement was disrupted in the morning and afternoon as chaos prevailed due to the disorderly parking in front of the function halls. The city centres and suburbs that boast of popular marriage venues, the scene was more chaotic."The authorities should streamline traffic near the marriage halls and avoid inconvenience to others. We have no objection to one's celebration but it should not pose problems for others," said an executive with a credit card company. Those heading for marriages in other parts of the State had a tough time, too, with buses and trains running packed. The Imlibun bus station and Secunderabad railway station teemed with people from Tuesday evening itself. From flower sellers to caterers, the orders just poured. ists.
