Special Correspondent

District-wide rally to be taken out from May 18

  • Chennithala to inaugurate rally at the Gandhi Park
  • Congress mandalam committees to hold public meetings

Thiruvananthapuram: The District Congress Committee (DCC) will organise a campaign to highlight the anti-people policies pursued by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government, DCC president V.S. Sivakumar announced here on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Sivakumar said the year-long rule of the LDF Government was marked by failure on all fronts. "The Congress will mobilise the public against the flawed policies of the Government that have brought only misery to the masses." Mr. Sivakumar said Congress activists would visit households on May 12 and 13. "The party will take out a district-wide Janapaksha Yatra from May 18 to 22 to focus public attention on the LDF's misrule," he added. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the rally at the Gandhi Park here on May 18. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy is scheduled to address a public meeting to mark the culmination of the rally. The 106 Congress mandalam committees in the district will organise public meetings at various locations in connection with the rally.

Mr. Sivakumar said the fund collection for the construction of the second phase of the Swathantrya Samara Smrithi Bhavan for the DCC office would also be taken up.
