Bidar: Bidar Forest Development Agency, a wing of the Forest Department, has been selected for the Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra national award for 2004. The award will be presented in the first week of June, according to a release from Assistant Inspector General of Forests of the Union Government Alok Verma.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Dilip Kumar Das said the agency had treated 971 hectares of degraded forestland, with the participation of 25 village forest committees, in five taluks. As a result, forest cover in Bidar had increased by six per cent of the total forest area. An amount of Rs. 1.9 crore had been used for the purpose.
