Gulbarga: Tension prevailed in Gulbarga for some time on Wednesday after some people from Kalagi village protested against the alleged denial of permission by the police to bury a woman, Mariambi Dastagir, 70, who died on Tuesday. Dastagir's relatives had sought to bury her body in a disputed ground in Kalagi village. But the police reportedly stopped them. Nearly 200 people then took the body to the Kalagi police station, in front of which they threatened to bury the body. Later, the protesters took the body to Gulbarga and tried to carry it to the Deputy Commissioner's office. But they were stopped by the police, who arrested nearly 100 of them. They were later released. The police said that the burial ground was a Wakf property and, therefore, they could not be allowed to bury the body there. The protesters then went on to the Santraswadi Masjid. However, Additional Superintendent of police M.N. Nagraj and other officials managed to convince them to bury the body in the same burial ground in Kalagi village. Headquarters assistant to the Deputy Commissioner Ravikiran Vanti and others accompanied the protestors back to Kalagi village.
