Special Correspondent
Srikakulam: Inaugurating the Rs.21 lakh `neta bazaar' here on Wednesday, the Revenue Minister, Dharmana Prasada Rao, referred to the adverse impact of globalisations and liberalisation as also introduction of new technology, on the handloom weavers community and said that with a view to ameliorate their hardship the Government had enhanced the budget allocation to Rs.100. The Minister assured to further increase the allocation so that the same would be on par with the allocations for this sector in the neighbouring State of Tamil Nadu. If a particular sector or a group felt it was neglected, the Government should step in and inculcate confidence among the affected people. His Government has been doing the same, the Minister said. The Minister hoped that, through improved sales, the neta bazaar would help improve the conditions of weavers. The Collector, V.N.Vishnu, said that steps were taken to strengthen the 42 weavers cooperatives in the district through the integrated development of cooperatives project. He had predicted good future for weavers. He said artisan cards would be given to handloom weavers in the district. State president of Weavers Congress V.V.Parvathisam wanted the Government to ensure employment to the children of weavers.
