Now, pay your power bills through mobile

Two companies will collect mobile numbers of its customers


  • EPDCL signs MoU with two networking companies
  • Mobile numbers of customers to be collected

    Rajahmundry: Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (EPDCL), which has introduced CFL bulbs scheme to reduce consumption, has come out with another attractive scheme for its varied customer network. The scheme announced two years ago, has taken a shape now and it is going to beep your mobiles very soon. The EPDCL has already signed a MOU in February this year with two networking companies-Cellebrum- Haryana and Spanco, Mumbai. The three-year contract will enable EPDCL to allow the two networking companies to connect with its Central Server. Cellebrum will cater its services in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts, where as Spanco will offer its services in East and West Godavari districts. Cellebrum has offered to give 1 lakh free SMS calls in its contract and Spanco's offer is 80,000 for two Godavari districts.

    Tie-up

    Two companies will collect all the mobile numbers of its customers and also bank account numbers from interested parties, who want to pay their power bills through their mobiles. Cellebruam and Spanco in-turn will have tie-up with all Cellular players like BSNL, Hutch, Idea, Airtel, Tata Indicom and others to get connected through its servers. The two companies will also have access for e-banking networks with prior written permission of its EPDCL customers to follow the instruction in deducting the power bill account.

    "Initially we will give SMS maintenance information, break downs, receive complaints through mobiles. Slowly we will extend this to e-banking and ultimately with in an year we will send messages of power bills also"-said Praveen Prakash, Chairman and Managing Director of EPDCL.
