ALL BLESSINGS: Even Julia's parents chose to dress the Indian way for their daughter's wedding.
HUBLI: It was just like any other wedding conducted according to the Lingayat tradition at the Jagadguru Rambhapuri Kalyanmantap here on Wednesday. There was only one difference the bride was an Australian. Julia, a journalist with a newspaper in Perth, had brought her parents and a few of her close relatives and friends to attend the ceremony. Priests from the Lingayat community did not skip even a single ritual. The bridegroom, Sachin Bulagannavar, was from Hubli. He is the son of a businessman and is now employed in a private firm in Perth. He had gone to Australia after his pre-university education around twelve years ago. During his stay in Perth, where he has built a house, Sachin met Julia and they got married. After registering their marriage in Perth, the couple wanted to get married in the traditional Indian way. They had all support from Julia's father Jerzy Maciolek, an engineer, and mother Jolanta, an artist. Accompanied by a group of 13 relatives, including Julia's brother Jacob who is an engineer, the couple travelled to Hubli via Bangalore. On Tuesday, rituals including the formal exchange of "veelya", which marks the acceptance of the parents for the marriage, were conducted. On Wednesday, the rituals began in the morning and a curious Julia wanted to know the meaning of each ritual. Family sources said that the couple would be shifting to the United States as Sachin has got a job there.
