MADIKERI: President of the Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha, Kodagu unit, S.P. Mahadevappa, on Wednesday, demanded a Corps of Detectives (CoD) probe into the fake title deed racket in Somwarpet taluk. Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Mahadevappa, who suspected the involvement of local leaders of major political parties in the racket, said though the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat had adopted a resolution to institute an inquiry, it would not suffice. A CoD probe alone could establish the truth, he added. Mr. Mahadevappa threatened to organise an agitation in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police here if a junior police officer, who he claimed was corrupt, was not transferred from the Ponnampet police station in Virajpet taluk immediately. He alleged that an official at the Ponnampet police station had indulged in extortion. The official, he said, though unauthorised to check vehicles had reportedly stopped mini lorries, goods vehicles and others and demanded money from the drivers. He behaved rudely with the people who went to lodge complaints or get their gun licences renewed in police station, he said. Mr. Mahadevappa said he had sent copies of the complaints to Home Minister M.P. Prakash, Inspector General of Police (Southern Range) and the Superintendent of Police of Kodagu.
