TDP workers told to eye 2009 polls

Staff Reporter

KADAPA: Telugu Desam Party Polit Bureau Member K. Sivananda Reddy on Wednesday called upon the party's rank and file to strive relentlessly with a goal to regain power in the 2009 general elections.

Presiding over a constituency-level extensive meeting of TDP here, Mr. Reddy said city, mandal and village committees of the parties should play a key role in enlightening the people on `failures' of the Congress Government.

Kadapa city, Chennur and Siddhavatam mandal committees would be elected today.

Congress flayed

TDP members worked with a motto to serve people in its nine-year rule, but the three-year-old Congress Government smacked of abuse of power, scams and landgrabbing, Mr. Sivananda Reddy alleged. The sole objective of Congress leaders was to amass money, he alleged. Congress misrule should be exposed before people.

Assuring due representation to women, downtrodden and weaker sections and minorities, he urged the panels to work responsibly and enhance the party's prestige. The party was not any individual's property and leaders would gain recognition if they worked hard, he said. Leaders working selflessly would get them posts, he said and urged aspirants not to lobby for posts.

Farmers' miseries grew since Congress regained power and minorities were duped by promises of five per cent reservation, he alleged. Administration was wayward and amassing wealth gained precedence over people's welfare, he alleged.

TDP MLC M. Venkatasiva Reddy sought preference in committees to those striving in accordance with the party's ideology and objectives. Those disenchanted with the party should also be carried along.

Party leaders and activists should work in tandem setting aside minor differences, he advised.
